Tips for Living in a Family Suite for an Extended Period of Time

by Joshua Armstrong

If you need to travel for business and live in a new location for a long time, your company might offer to pay for a family suite and allow your family to live with you during that time. This is great because it means that you will be able to be there for your children and that you will not have to miss your significant other. However, it can also be stressful because no matter how large and beautiful your family suite is, it is not going to be as big as a house.

Here are some tips for making sure that you living in a family suite for an extended period of time is as pleasant as possible.

1. Declutter

The easiest way to make even the largest family suite seem too small is to have a lot of clutter. This is trash that has not yet been thrown away, clothes that are on the floor, toys that are not in boxes or baskets, and other items that are not in their assigned locations. Take time every night to put away anything that is not in its correct location. This will allow you to keep on top of the clutter and allow you to make sure that you don't become overwhelmed. It will also make it easier for the maid service to clean up your suite more easily and quickly.

One good way to keep on top of your clutter is to simply set a timer for fifteen minutes before you go to bed each night. Everyone in the suite should put items away as quickly as possible during this time. You can make a game out of it.

If you have children, consider bringing a large plastic box that can fit underneath the bed for their toys. This will allow you to keep the toys out of your way when they are not being played with.

2. Take Advantage of Everything the Hotel Offers

If your hotel offers a swimming pool or a fitness center, try to take advantage of it as much as you can. This will allow you to stay out of your room and get some time outside, which can make coming back to your suite seem like a treat.

3. Focus on Meals You Can Make in the Suite

Many hotels will give you a refrigerator and some hotels might even have a small kitchen area that you can use. Keep your costs low by cooking meals in your suite. This will make you feel healthier, which can decrease overall irritability and make it easier to live in your suite for an extended period of time.
