Tips For Staying In A Pet-Friendly Hotel

by Joshua Armstrong

Traveling with a pet has become more common and many hotels are now offering pet-friendly accommodations. If you are looking for pet-friendly hotels for your dog or cat, there are some things to keep in mind to make sure your stay is a great one. For example, some hotels offer pet-friendly accommodations but don't offer any pet-friendly amenities or only have certain rooms available for you. When you are searching for the right pet-friendly hotels, these tips could help you find the best lodging for you.

Breed, Weight, And Type Of Pet Restrictions

One of the first things you should check before you book any hotels pet-friendly for your vacation is to find out if the hotel has any breed, weight, or type of pet restrictions. There are many hotels that are welcoming to pets but only certain types of pets, for example, only dogs or small animals, while others only allow cats. It's a good idea to check if the hotel you are interested in allows your pet type to stay there.

You also need to know if there are any weight restrictions. Many hotels that allow dogs only wish to have small dogs under a certain weight. If you have a large breed dog they may not be welcomed there. Contact the hotels you are interested in to find out if there are any breed or weight restrictions.

Extra Fees

Some pet-friendly hotels might ask for additional fees along with your room rental when you bring your pet on the trip. These fees could include additional funds for cleaning the room after your stay, for use of the bathroom area for your dog, and even upfront fees in case of any damage done by your pet during your stay.

It's advisable to contact the hotel to ask if there are any extra fees you may need to budget for before you book your stay. You don't want to be surprised when you check in or when you settle your account.

Pets Let Unattended

When you bring your pet to pet-friendly hotels for your vacation, you may not always be able to bring them with you to all the attractions or restaurants you wish to visit. This means, your dog or cat will have to stay in the hotel room while you leave for a few hours. Some hotels will not let you leave your pet alone in the room so you will need to ask the staff ahead of time if you are able to do so.

For those hotels that don't let you leave your pet alone in the room, find out if they have pet-sitting services at the hotel where your dog or cat can play with others or spend time with hotel staff while you are away.
